Ginee Wadhawan’s love for little girls inspired her to start the foundation – Daughters Are Blessings. She works towards providing support, hope, and courage to girls and women from all sects of communities, to help them stand for themselves. Her foundation works towards encouraging and preparing women and girls to be strong, independent, and self-reliant human beings.
Ginee’s source of inspiration was her father, who always said that daughters are a blessing. His words remained with her and somewhere struck a chord to do something for this tribe. During her years in the corporate world, she would always look for spaces which would provide her the contentment and satisfaction of doing good work at the end of the day. While on business trips, she would invariably meet girls who would be in need of support and guidance. This is when she decided to start a community that will work towards upliftment and empowerment of girls and women.
At Daughters Are Blessings, Ginee and her team provide vocational training to the participants. Stitching, sewing, art, and handicrafts are a few skills they teach to help girls and women take charge of their lives and families. They empower them with decision making powers, positive self-image mindset and capabilities required for living life with dignity.
Ginee started the foundation in 2013 and since then has been felicitated with multiple awards and honours from various organizations and corporate houses for the exceptional work in this field. She is very proud of her team and the work they do and says, “I have an innate love for girls. Our community has helped, both, girls and women carve a niche for themselves, believe in themselves, and stand for what is right even if it means to be standing alone. We always believe that strong women make strong communities.”
