Lady in action – Hira Mehta

Hira Mehta is one lady adept at multiple skills and roles in life. She is an administrator, communicator, consultant, voice over & dubbing artist, author, filmmaker, and a successful entrepreneur. Successful in wearing multiple hats with élan and passion, Hira stands by Erma Bombeck’s quote ~ “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’”~.

Her vigour for work is admirable. For her there hasn’t been a single sluggish day post-retirement; rather she finds herself busier than before. She has always been a conversation starter and given her passion for interactions and dialogues, she founded a hyperlocal forum for women from in and around Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri called Arunima. At Arunima, Hira and her team members work towards creating awareness about issues faced by women from Andheri on a day to day basis. They conduct donation drives, organize workshops and social cause events for women and girl child. Hira is also an active supporter of the cause of Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

As an author, Hira has two books to her credit – a book on short stories titled Twisted Tales and More and a non-fiction book titled Young and Sixty. She has also written a few scripts, poems, and stories. Her directorial entry at YES Foundation’s YES I AM THE CHANGE Social Filmmaking Challenge in September 2016 was ranked amongst the top 10 films. She mentor’s youth in communication skills and volunteers at a theatre group for children’s workshops.

In a nutshell, there is nothing that Hira cannot do. She spent close to four decades at a leading bank before retirement, did freelancing, blogging, proofreading, actor, director and much more.

She firmly believes that “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter”. She is an inspiration for all those who think that with age, body and mind should also slow down.
